Northern State 30 Minnesota State 13

Mankato, Minn. — 17th-rated Minnesota State Mavericks fell to the 21st-rated Northern State Wolves Saturday night by a 30-13 margin in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual.

With the loss, the Mavericks fall to (2-3, 2-3 NSIC), while the Wolves improve to (9-2,5-2 NSIC).

Prior to the dual, four senior student-athletes, Trenton McManus, Kolbe O’Brien, Kyle Rathman, and Trevor Turriff, were honored for their accomplishments as a Maverick wrestler.

Four Mavericks got their hand raised, including three by decision and one by major decsion.

MSU dropped the first four matches to fall behind 20-0.

At 157 lbs., Cooper Siebrecht got the Mavericks on the board with a 4-0 decision victory over Izaak Hunsley. Then at 165 lbs., Brody Nielsen won by decision 6-4 with a takedown in overtime over Chase Bloomquist. At 174 lbs., #8 Trevor Turriff won by decision 6-3 over Kelby Hawkins.

The Mavericks dropped the next two matches before junior heavyweight Darrell Mason upped his record to 11-0 to stay undefeated with a 16-6 major decision over Josh Trumble. Wrapping up the dual giving the Wolves a 30-13 win.

Next action for Minnesota State (2-3, 2-3 NSIC) is Feb. 5 with a home doubleheader vs. St. Cloud State at 7:00 P.M.
