BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Minnesota State’s Darrell Mason has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Wrestler of the Year for his efforts this past season.

A junior from Chicago, Ill., Mason (285 lbs.) finished the season with an unblemished 22-0 record en route to winning a national individual tile. Mason, who was named Most Outstanding Wrestler as the national tournament, went 4-0 at the NCAA DII Championships, including a 5-3 decision over Kutztown’s Andrew Dunn in the final to secure the NCAA title He claimed the NCAA DII Super Region championship with a 4-0 record to advance to the national championship tournament for the first time. He also was named First Team All-NSIC this season.
Mason is the second Maverick to receive NSIC Wrestler of the Year honors. Tommy Abbott received the honor back in the 2008-09 season.
As a team, Minnesota State finished seventh at the NCAA Championships with 39 points.
