The #3 St. Cloud State University wrestling team completed its first day of competition at the 2022 NCAA Division II championships on Friday, March 11. The tourney is being held this weekend at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis and the final round of action will take place on Saturday, March 12.
After the first day of matches, the three-time defending national champion Huskies rank third in the team standings with 42.5 points, while Nebraska Kearney is first with 67.5 points and Central Oklahoma is second with 52.0 points. SCSU advanced four wrestlers in the championship round and five SCSU qualifiers have advanced to matches on Saturday.
SCSU wrestlers who have already gained All-America status include senior Garrett Vos, who received All-America honors at 133-pounds for the fourth time during his storied career with the Huskies. He was joined in the honors court by junior Joseph Bianchini, who is a three-time All-American at 141-pounds. At 285-pounds, senior Kameron Teacher posted two wins to earn All-America status for the second consecutive season at SCSU. The group is completed by transfer Anthony Hererra, who won two matches today at 157-pounds to qualify for All-America status. Of note, Hererra also gained All-America status twice during his junior college career in the NJCAA before joining the Huskies this season.
The Huskies will return to action at Chaifetz Arena on March 12 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
