FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State wrestlers will have 11 Bison competing at the 2022 U.S. Open Championships scheduled this week from April 26 to May 1 in Las Vegas, Nevada. 10 Bison wrestlers will be competing as part of the U20 Nationals event (formerly known as UWW Junior Nationals), while one Bison will compete at the senior level.
Two Bison made their first appearance at the championships and opened up the event on April 27. Freshmen DJ Parker (87 kg) and Spencer Mooberry (97 kg) began the week with the Greco-Roman discipline as part of the U20 National set up.
All 11 Bison wrestlers will then compete in the Freestyle discipline, which is slated to get underway April 29. Senior McGwire Midkiff will wrestle at 61 kg in the Senior National event. The senior national event is the qualifying event for the 2022 Senior World Team Trials Challenge tournament and Final X.
At the U20 level, 10 Bison will be competing including; freshman Julian Perez (57 kg), freshman Ryan Watts (65 kg), freshman Clay Radenz (65 kg), freshman Gabriel Schumm (70 kg), freshman Michael Caliendo (74 kg), freshman Mason Gode (74kg), freshman Mannix Morgan (79 kg), Parker (86 kg), Mooberry (97 kg), and freshman Juan Mora (125 kg).
All U20 Nationals events are qualifying events for the 2022 U20 World Team Trials on June 3-5th in Geneva, Ohio. The champions in each event will earn an automatic berth to the best-of-three wrestle-off series against the World Team Trials challenge tournament champion in June.
