Six Bison Honored, NDSU Wrestling Finish No. 4 in NWCA Scholar All-America Team Rankings

MANHEIM, Pa. – North Dakota State finished the season ranked No. 4 in the 2022 NWCA Scholar All-America team standings announced by the National Wrestling Coaches Association on Friday, April 29.

NDSU’s 3.542 team grade-point average was fourth overall in NCAA Division I, behind only Long Island’s 3.626, Hofstra’s 3.575, and Cleveland State’s 3.553. The Bison were the top Big 12 team recognized.

The Bison also had six wrestlers honored as NWCA Scholar All-Americans. Junior 141 Dylan Droegemueller, freshman 149 Gaven Sax, junior 157 Jared Franek, senior 165 Luke Weber, sophomore 174 Riley Habisch, and senior 285 Brandon Metz were among the 289 individuals honored.

Franek and Metz, both three-time recipients of the award, were two of NDSU’s five NCAA national championship qualifiers. Franek was the Big 12 runner-up at 157 pounds. Droegemueller, Sax, Weber, and Habisch are all first-time recipients.

NWCA Division I Scholar All-America Awards

North Dakota State went 10-4 in dual meets and placed seventh at the 2021 Big 12 Championships.
