Kue and Creese Place at U23 World Team Trials

GENEVA, Ohio – A pair of St. Cloud State wrestlers earned top-eight finishes last weekend at the U23 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio, to earn All-America honors. Wrestling in Greco Roman competition, redshirt sophomore Phillip Kue (Gresham, Ore.) finished fourth at 63 kg and sophomore Paxton Creese (Shakopee, Minn.) finished seventh at 60 kg. Both wrestlers competed unattached with no school affiliation.

Kue posted a record of 3-2 in the 63 kg weight class to finish fourth. After dropping his first match of the tournament, Kue defeated Nicholas Paso (Curby 3 Style WC), 10-1, Braden Ledford (O Town Wrestling Club), 10-0 and Diego Romero (Garage Boyz Wrestling), 9-1, in the consolation bracket before falling to King Sandoval (Bandits Wrestling Club), 8-0, in the third-place match. Creese went 2-2 in the 60 kg weight class to finish seventh, recording wins over Mason Barrett (Cougar Wrestling Club), 12-3 in the round of 16 and in the seventh-place match, 8-0.
