Fifth-year senior is third straight wrestler to earn honor in back-to-back seasons
LEXINGTON, KY – For the second straight season, St. Cloud State University wrestling’s Garrett Vos (St. Bonifacius, Minn. / Waconia) is an Academic All-American. The fifth-year senior earned the prestigious honor from the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as he was named Second Team Academic All-America by the organization Tuesday morning.
This is the second straight Academic All-America honor for Vos, as he was named First Team Academic All-America at the conclusion of the 2020-21 academic year. A criminal justice major, Vos maintained a 3.66 GPA while leading the Huskies to another impressive season on the mat. In 2021-22, Vos became the 11th four-time All-American in St. Cloud State history, as he finished as the nation’s runner-up at 133 pounds at the national championship for the second consecutive season. He additionally helped the Huskies break the NCAA record for consecutive win streak, as he played a key role in St. Cloud State’s 77 consecutive dual match victories.
Vos graduated this spring as one of the most successful wrestlers in program history. In his five seasons with the Huskies, Vos was a three-time First Team All-Conference honoree and was voted the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Rookie of the Year in 2018-19. He finished as the national runner-up at 133 pounds in both 2020-21 and 2021-22 and was a member of two NCAA National Championship teams. Vos will leave the program as a four-time Academic All-Conference, two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District and two-time Academic All-America honoree, becoming the first wrestler in program history to achieve all three feats since Brett Velasquez.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America teams are selected by the sports information directors and athletic communication representatives across the nation at the Division I, II and III level. Honorees must have been selected as a First Team Academic All-District.
