The regular season schedule will feature 15 duals and three tournaments, making it the largest competition slate for the Gophers since 2019-20
MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota wrestling program announced their full 2022-23 schedule on Tuesday morning, as the season will officially kick off on Nov. 13, and feature six home duals inside Maturi Pavilion.
The full season slate will feature a total of 15 dual meets, which will be the most since the 2019-20 campaign, as well as three tournaments. Start times and TV streaming coverage for the upcoming season will be announced at a later date.
The season slate officially gets underway on November 12th when the Maroon & Gold travels to Fargo, N.D. to compete in the Bison Open, before kicking off the dual season at home on Nov. 20 inside Maturi Pavilion by hosting Binghamton for just the second meeting in program history between the two schools.
The Gophers will then head to Brookings, S.D. for their annual meeting with South Dakota State on Nov. 27, before returning home for a mid-week contest against Augustana (D-II) on December 1.
The “U” will then kick off a six-event road stretch that will take them to mid-January, beginning with a road dual against Oklahoma State for the latest rendition of the storied rivalry with the Cowboys on Dec. 4.
Minnesota then hits the road the following weekend for a showdown against North Dakota State on Dec. 9, as well as a triangular against Cal Poly and Lindenwood in San Luis Obispo, CA on Dec. 11. The non-conference schedule will come to a close on New Year’s weekend when the Gophers head down to Chattanooga, TN, to compete in the Southern Scuffle.
The Big Ten schedule kicks off with two-straight road contests as the Gophers will head to Northwestern for a road contest on Jan. 7 before traveling to Lincoln, NE, to battle the Cornhuskers on Jan. 13.
The Maroon & Gold returns home on Jan. 15 to compete in front of the home faithful against Michigan State, before leaving Minneapolis once more for another road contest against Indiana on Jan. 20.
The home schedule comes to a close with three-straight conference showdowns against Purdue (Jan. 22), Illinois (Jan. 28), and Iowa (Feb. 3), before the Gophers will close out conference play with a road contest against Wisconsin on Feb. 11.
The postseason begins at the Big Ten Championships on Mar. 4-5 in Ann Arbor, MI, before Minnesota takes their national qualifiers to Tulsa, OK to compete at the NCAA Championships from Mar. 16-18 to close out the year.
