South Dakota State Schedule Finalized For 2022-23

The South Dakota State wrestling team will host eight home events, including duals against three programs that finished in the top 15 at last season’s NCAA Championships, during the upcoming 2022-23 season.

“This is one of the best home schedules we’ve ever had,” said SDSU head coach Damion Hahn, who is entering his fifth season with the Jackrabbits. “I’m really excited for the season and can’t wait to see our guys compete.”

The first two months of the season will consist of a mix of tournaments and dual meets, starting with a trip to the Bison Open in Fargo, North Dakota, on Nov. 12. The Jackrabbits are scheduled to host the Daktronics Open Nov. 20 before traveling to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 2-3) and the Soldier Salute tournament in Coralville, Iowa (Dec. 29-30) to close out the calendar year.

SDSU, 13-4 in duals a season ago with five returning NCAA qualifiers, kicks off the dual slate Nov. 18 versus Augustana. The Jackrabbits will then host a pair of regional Big Ten Conference opponents to wrap up the first half of the season, welcoming Minnesota to Frost Arena on Nov. 27 and Nebraska on Dec. 18. Nebraska finished fifth at the 2022 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, while Minnesota placed 11th.

As the calendar flips to 2023, the Jackrabbits’ schedule will be heavy in Big 12 Conference duals as they are slated to face eight league opponents in dual action, starting with a matchup at newcomer California Baptist on the back end of a triangular with Northern Illinois on Jan. 7 in Riverside, California.

Two weekend homestands against Big 12 opponents appear on the docket. SDSU hosts Utah Valley (Jan. 20) and Wyoming (Jan. 22) in the first homestand, followed by duals against Oklahoma State (Feb. 10) and Oklahoma (Feb. 12). OSU, which had its run of Big 12 titles ended by Missouri during the 2021-22 season, placed 13th at the 2022 NCAA Championships.

Other road duals in Big 12 action are set for Jan. 27 at Northern Colorado, Jan. 29 at Air Force and the Feb. 19 dual finale at North Dakota State.

SDSU’s finale nonconference competition of the season is set for Jan. 13-14 at the Virginia Duals.

Both of the Jackrabbits’ postseason events will take place at BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Big 12 Wrestling Championship is set for March 4-5, followed by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships March 16-18.
