PONTEVEDRA, Spain – South Dakota State wrestler Tanner Sloan is abroad this week to compete on an international stage in the U23 World Championship.
Sloan is slated to compete in the 97-kilogram senior freestyle division Friday and Saturday. Qualification rounds will be held on Friday, with medal matches taking place on Saturday. The draw for the senior freestyle division has yet to be announced.

A native of Alburnett, Iowa, and a three-time NCAA qualifier, Sloan earned a spot on Team USA by winning five matches over two days at the UWW World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio, in June. He will wrestle under the banner of the Jackrabbit Wrestling Club.
Sloan previously competed at the 2019 UWW Junior World Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, after opening international competition by winning the gold medal at the UWW Pan American Championship in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
