Duals Set for February 3
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Augustana wrestling is set to host a dual between Jackson County Central High School and Brandon Valley High School on February 3 prior to the Viking’s dual against UMary. The high school dual is slated for 6 p.m. with the Augustana dual set for 8 p.m. following the event.
Brandon Valley, ranked no. 1 in the state of South Dakota, won the state championship in 2021-22.
Jackson County Central won the 2022 Minnesota Class A State team title. Augustana freshman Payton Handevidt was the 160-pound champion in 2022 for Jackson County Central.
“We are really excited to have two of the best teams in the area competing before what should be a great dual between us and UMary,” said head coach Jason Reitmeier. “Brandon Valley is coming off a state title last season and are ranked No.1 in South Dakota, Jackson County Central is also coming off a state title last season and are also currently ranked No. 1 in Minnesota,
“On paper this is a great match up! We have a couple Jackson County kids currently on our roster in Jacob Tvinnereim and Payton Handevidt. We also have 2023 signees Logan Butzon from Jackson County Central and Alex Mentzer from Brandon Valley wrestling that night. You can’t get anymore invested in these two programs and Augustana then we are on February 3rd! This is going to be an exciting night of wrestling for the Sioux Falls area.”
