MSUM wrestling will kick off its home dual season this Thursday as they welcome Concordia College to Nemzek Fieldhouse. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m.
MSUM is coming off two weekends of open tournament competition. After their opening dual win over the University of Jamestown, the Dragons competed in the Jimmie Open the following day. Clayson Mele and Samuel Grove took runner-up honors in the open at 125 and 197 pounds respectively. The Dragons also had an unattached champion at 165 pounds.
This past weekend saw MSUM travel to Mitchell, S.D., where they competed in the DWU Open hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University. Mele went 4-2 at the open while Thomas Carrillo took sixth, going 4-2 at 133 pounds. Senior 174-pounder Anthony Castro turned in a 3-2 performance at the DWU Open while Samuel Grove went 2-2.
Concordia has yet to compete in a dual this season as their scheduled dual with Northern State was postponed to January due to weather. However, the Cobbers did take part in the Jimmie Open where they had four weight-class champions. Concordia took home wins at 133, 141, 184 and 197 pounds led by seniors Gabe Zierden and Cade Lundeen. The Cobbers also had four other wrestlers finish in the top three in their respective weight classes at the open.
