Mustangs place three at the Dakota Wesleyan Open

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team continued its open schedule on Saturday with three different place winners at the Dakota Wesleyan Open.

Caden Steffen led the way, going 5-0 and placing first at 184. He won four of his five matches by decision. Steffen won his third match of the day by fall. In his second match, Steffen defeated two-time NAIA All-American Kolby Kost (Augustana).

Luke Peterson ended his day 5-1, finishing second at 149. Peterson won in a variety of ways, picking up victories by tech fall, decision, major decision, and by fall on route to the championship match where he fell to #8 Nick Novak (SCSU).

Jacob Dykes wrapped up his day 3-0, placing sixth at 285. Dykes won three straight matches by decision before withdrawing due to injury.

Sean Howk finished his day 5-1. Howk had two fall victories, each occurring in the first period. Howk was unable to compete for a place due to the NCAA maximum of six matches in one day.

The Mustangs would finish the day with nine falls and three tech falls.
