Steffen chosen as NSIC Wrestler of the Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Southwest Minnesota State University’s Caden Steffen has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week. The announcement came from the league office in Burnsville, Minn., on Monday afternoon.

Steffen, a native of Zumbrota, Minn., went 5-0 on Saturday to win the 184-pound division at the Dakota Wesleyan Open. He opened the day defeating a two-time NAIA All-American from Morningside, 5-3, in the first round, before defeating Kolby Kost from Augustana, 3-2, in the second round. In the quarterfinals, he earned a win by fall, before defeating a pair of Nebraska-Kearney athletes by 2-0 in the semifinals and 3-2 in the finals. A two-time NCAA All-American, Steffen is ranked No. 2 in the preseason NWCA rankings.

This marks the second time in Steffen’s career that he has earned the honor. He won Wrestler of the Week last season after going 5-0 at the Dakota Wesleyan Open.

Southwest Minnesota State continues action Saturday in Kearney, Neb., for the Nebraska-Kearney Open starting at 9 a.m.
