LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 5-ranked Augsburg University women’s wrestling team is in contention for a fifth-place finish at the National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA Women’s National Duals, after going 2-1 in action on Friday.
Augsburg opened its tournament run by winning seven of 10 bouts, including a pin and four technical falls, in a 30-10 win over Limestone University (S.C.). The Auggies then faced No. 4-ranked McKendree University (Ill.) in its quarterfinal match, which ended in a 23-23 tie. McKendree claimed the match victory on criteria. In its consolation quarterfinal, the Auggies dispatched No. 12-ranked Adrian University (Mich.) 33-9 to advance to Saturday’s (1/7/23) consolation semifinals.
Gabrielle Torgerson (SR, Spooner, Wis./Cumberland HS) had a strong day for Augsburg at 123 pounds, winning all three of her matches by bonus-point margins, opening with a 10-0 technical fall and claiming 2:29 and 28-second pins in her final two bouts, improving to 19-8 on the year with seven pins and seven technical falls.
