BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Southwest Minnesota State University’s Jacob Dykes has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week. The announcement came from the league office in Burnsville, Minn., on Monday afternoon.
Dykes, a junior 285-pounder from Iowa City, Iowa, won his lone match last week, defeating reigning NWCA Wrestler of the Year and National Champion Darrell Mason of Minnesota State, handing him his first career Division-II loss. Dykes scored a takedown in the first period and an escape in the third period to pick up the 3-1 win. The win improved him to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in NSIC duals this season.

This marks the first time in his career that he has earned honor and is the second Mustang this season.
Southwest Minnesota State returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they travel to Kenosha, Wis. To take on Parkside and to Fayette, Iowa on Sunday, Jan. 22, to take on Upper Iowa. Both matches are slated to start at 2 p.m. Parkside and Upper Iowa are currently tied at No. 9 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association poll.
