Two more high school wrestling standouts recently signed a National Letter of Intent, indicating they will enroll at South Dakota State University in the fall and compete for the Jackrabbit wrestling program.
The signees are Avery Allen, 149 pounds, Bozeman, Montana, and Parker Janssen, 141 pounds, St. Michael, Minnesota.
Allen is in search of his fourth consecutive individual state title at Bozeman High School and holds a 140-2 record at the prep level. He won his first Class AA state championship at 132 pounds as a freshman, followed by a title at 145 pounds as a sophomore. Allen bumped up to 152 pounds as a junior and completed a 33-0 season with his third championship.
In addition, Allen was an all-state honoree in football this past fall as a cornerback and wide receiver.
Janssen, who is currently ranked second at 138 pounds in Minnesota’s Class AAA, is a two-time state qualifier for St. Michael-Albertville High School. He went a combined 79-12 in placing fourth at 113 pounds as a freshman (45-10 record) and finishing as runner-up in the 126-pound weight class his sophomore season (34-2 record).
Allen and Janssen join a 2023 Jackrabbit recruiting class that includes six other multi-time high school state champions. South Dakota State is ranked 17th in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll and has posted an 11-2 dual record so far this season, including a 5-0 mark in the Big 12 Conference.
