Vikings Host Minot State Thursday, Head to SCSU for Sunday Dual

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–The Augustana wrestling team returns to the Elmen Center for an NSIC dual against Minot State on Thursday at 7 p.m. before heading east to take on St. Cloud State on Sunday. The Sunday dual is slated for 3 p.m.

The Beavers
Minot State holds a record of 5-3 overall. The Beavers most recently competed at the Tracy Borah Duals and went 2-2 with wins over San Francisco State and New Mexico Highlands. MSU fell to Western Colorado and CSU Pueblo in the duals.

The Beavers have one nationally-ranked wrestler in Jake Swirple. Swirple is in the No. 8 spot at 285 pounds. The Thursday dual begins Minot State’s action in the NSIC.

The Huskies
St. Cloud State is coming off of a first-place finish at the NWCA National Duals last weekend. The Huskies defeated No. 1 Central Oklahoma in the finals to claim their seventh NWCA National Duals title. Overall, St. Cloud State holds a record of 7-0.

SCSU is nationally ranked at No. 3 as a team with eight individually ranked wrestlers. Paxton Creese is in the sixth spot at 125 pounds, Caleb Meekins is ranked 12th at 133 pounds, Aleyeus Craig is ranked eighth at 141 pounds, Joey Bianchini is in the fourth spot at 149 pounds, Nick Novak is ranked fourth at 157 pounds, Anthony Herrera is ranked 10th at 165 pounds, Abner Romero is ranked first at 174 pounds and Dominic Murphy is in the fourth spot at 197 pounds.

The Vikings
The Vikings hold a record of 5-6 overall and 1-0 in NSIC action. Augustana was last on the mat at the NWCA National Duals where the team went 1-3. Augustana defeated No. 18 Mercyhurst on the second day of the national duals.

Two Vikings were individually ranked in the latest NWCA rankings. Jaxson Rohman saw the fifth spot in the poll at 125 pounds. Rohman has a record of 10-2 this season with four falls. At 157 pounds, Miles Fitzgerald is in the 10th spot in the poll. Fitzgerald is 13-7 overall this season with one technical fall, three major decision wins and eight wins by decision.

In Augustana’s first conference dual of the season against MSU Moorhead, the Vikings defeated the Dragons 31-15. Augustana saw victories in seven of 10 weight classes.
