Mavericks to Compete at NCAA Super Regions on Feb. 25

Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State (5-7, 2-7 NSIC) wrestling team enters postseason competition Saturday, Feb. 25, heading to Aberdeen, S.D. for the NCAA Division II Super Region V Championships.

Super Region V is made up of all ten Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams, and the tournament serves as a qualifier for the upcoming 2023 NCAA Division II wrestling championships. The top three individuals in each weight class at the regional event earn a berth to the NCAA Division II Championships held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, March 10-11.

In 2022, the Mavericks qualified two individuals to the NCAA Division II National Championships. Trevor Turriff (184 lbs.) and Darrell Mason (285 lbs.) each earned trips to the national meet with a second-place finish and first-place finish, respectively at the Super Region.

In the latest NWCA DII Coaches Association individual rankings, MSU had two wrestlers ranked nationally. Senior Brock Luthens is ranked 12th at 141 pounds and holds a 20-6 record. Senior Darrell Mason is ranked 11th at 285 pounds, with a 9-3 record and is the returning national champion.
