Mustangs win handful of matches, but fall to Beavers
MARSHALL, Minn. – The No. 22 ranked Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team fell to the Minot State University Beavers inside PE Gym by a final score of 23-15 on Saturday.
The Vikings jumped out to an early lead, winning 125 by forfeit, 133 by major decision, 141 by decision and 149 by major decision.
After a 10-0 start for the Beavers, Hunter Pfantz picked up the first win of the day for the Mustangs at 141. Pfantz won by 5-3 decision over Ethan Wonser.
The next victory for the Mustangs came at 157, Sean Howk earned a 4-1 decision victory over Nathan Baca.
Lucas Hodges kept the wins going for the Mustangs, picking up a 6-3 decision victory over Brendan Barnes.
Carter Marx defeated Dustin Swisher by 4-3 decision.
No. 11 Jacob Dykes faced off with No. 9 Jake Swirple. Dykes picked up a 3-0 decision victory.
“Tonight was fun.” Said second-year head coach Chayse Jackson. “In a back and forth dual full of great matches and energy from both sides, we fell just short. Although we picked up a healthy number of wins, bonus points were our downfall. Nonetheless, the passion, heart, and energy these men displayed made me proud. I am excited for tomorrow!”
