Rogotzke wins at Don Parker Open

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Roman Rogotzke claimed the 197-pound title and Cody Donnelly placed third in the same weight class to lead a group of South Dakota State wrestlers Saturday at the Don Parker Open.

A redshirt freshman from Stillwater, Minnesota, Rogotzke posted a 3-0 record on the day, culminating with a 12-7 victory over Kolby Franklin of Iowa in the championship match. After receiving an opening-round bye, Rogotzke pinned D.J. Myles of St. John’s (Minn.) in the first period of his first match of the day, then followed with an 11-5 decision over Minnesota State’s Josh Piechowski.

Donnelly, a redshirt freshman from Philip, tallied a 2-1 record, with his only blemish a 6-4 setback at the hands of Franklin in the semifinals. Donnelly was dominant in his first two matches, turning in an 18-3 technical fall against Luther’s Jacob Steenhoek, followed by a first-period fall over Wisconsin’s Michael Tal-Shahar.

Donnelly was awarded third place after his scheduled opponent, Gabriel Zierden of Concordia-Moorhead, withdrew from the tournament for medical reasons.

Two Jackrabbits freshman wrestlers added top-eight placings after posting 3-2 records on Saturday: Ryan Dolezal finished seventh at 165 pounds and Brock Fettig placed sixth in the 174-pound weight class. In addition, Kail Wynia claimed the B consolation title at heavyweight with a 3-1 record, while Jaxon Bowes finished as runner-up in one of two consolation brackets in the 184-pound division after compiling a 2-2 record.

All three of Wynia’s victories were by fall.

Also competing for SDSU was Isaac Klinkhammer, who notched a 1-2 record at 165 pounds.
