Saint John’s wrestling visits Concordia for a number of exhibition matches at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in Moorhead.
A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John’s suffered a 25-19 loss at Ridgewater last Thursday (Feb. 9) in Willmar. The dual featured a scoring run from each team and was decided in the final match.
Following a double forfeit at 125 pounds, freshman Teagyn Ludwig (Richmond, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) gave SJU an early 4-0 lead with a 12-4 major decision at 133. Ridgewater, however, answered with four-straight wins to gain a 19-4 lead.
The Johnnies put together a three-match comeback – a forfeit at 174 pounds, pin from junior Hayden LeMonds (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) at 184 and a 5-3 decision from sophomore D.J. Myles (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) at 197 – to tie the dual at 19-19 heading into the heavyweight bout. Freshman Zachariah Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) bumped up from his usual 197 pounds to 285 and was pinned in the second period.

PREPPING FOR REGIONAL: Tuesday’s dual is the Johnnies’ final competition before the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional next Friday-Saturday, Feb. 24-25, hosted by Concordia (Wis.) in Mequon, Wis. The top-three finishers in each of the regional’s 10 weight classes advance to the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held March 10-11 at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Va.
JOHNNIES MAKING THE TRIP: Due to injuries, five Johnnies are scheduled to compete in a number of matches Tuesday night at Concordia.

LAST YEAR: Concordia handed SJU a 47-0 loss the last time these two teams met Jan. 22 (2022) in Collegeville. The Johnnies forfeited four weights and neither team had a wrestler at 125 pounds.
Aaron Voigt wrestled the most competitive match of the dual in a close 3-1 loss to the Cobbers’ Chase Dockter at heavyweight. Dockter scored a takedown with 34 seconds remaining in the bout.
