Four Set to Represent Augustana at NCAA DII Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D–No. 14 Augustana wrestling travels to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this weekend to compete in the 2023 NCAA DII Wrestling Championships. Four Vikings qualified for the national tournament and will represent Augustana on March 10-11.

Upper Iowa University is the host for this year’s NCAA Division II Wrestling Championship at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Access to live scoring, updated brackets, and FloWrestling streams can be found here.

The National Qualifiers

No. 5 Jaxson Rohman – 125 pounds
Rohman won his first two matches of the day en route to the final match. In his first match of the day, Rohman received a bye and awaited his first opponent. He defeated Upper Iowa’s Colby Lopez in the quarterfinal by way of fall at 2:47. In the semifinal match, Rohman bested Jaden Verhagen of UMary by 9-6 decision.

The sophomore fell in the first-place match to Wisconsin-Parkside’s Shane Corrigan, finishing second at the tournament at 125 pounds and punching his ticket to the NCAA DII Championships.

The trip to the national tournament is the second for Rohman, as he was a national qualifier in 2022 at 125 pounds.

No. 7 Hunter Burnett – 141 pounds
Burnett placed second at 141 pounds and will make his way to the NCAA DII Championships for the third time in his career. Receiving a bye in the first round, Burnett pushed his way through the bracket with wins over St. Cloud State’s Alyeus Craig (4-2 decision) and Upper Iowa’s Tate Murty (6-5 decision).

In the first-place match, Burnett fell to Cayden Henschel of Wisconsin-Parkside to place second at the tournament.

Burnett is making his way to his third NCAA DII Championship tournament after qualifying in 2020 and 2022. He earned NWCA All-America honors at 141 pounds in 2020.

No. 8 Kolby Kost – 174 pounds
Kost qualified for the national tournament for the first time in his career with a third-place finish at the Super Region V tournament. The senior went 4-1 on the day, working his way through the backside of the bracket to earn a spot at the NCAA DII Championships.

Kost tallied wins over Crosby Schlosser of Wisconsin-Parkside (9-0 major decision), Michael Smith of Minnesota State (Fall 6:14) and Elijah Sterner of Southwest Minnesota State (Fall 2:12). In the third-place match, Kost brought down Minot State’s Cannon Potts by 8-4 decision.

This is Kost’s first time qualifying for the national tournament.

No. 10 Cade Mueller – 184 pounds
Mueller joins his teammates at the national tournament with a third-place finish in the region. The Waconia, Minnesota, native fell in his first match of the day but pushed ahead to the third-place match, where he defeated UMary’s Wyatt Lidberg to earn his way to the national tournament for the second year in a row.

He logged wins over Sam Kruger of Northern State (3-2 decision), Brett Graham of Minnesota State Moorhead (6-0 decision) and Cayden White of Minot State (7-4 decision) in the tournament.

Mueller is a two-time national qualifier, as he qualified for the tournament last year, placing first at the NCAA Super Region V tournament in 2022.

One Last Thing
The Championship will determine the Division II All-America team with the top-eight finishers in each weight class earning All-America status.
