11 Huskies named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

Program matches second-highest team total in Costanzo era

MANHEIM, Pa. – 11 St. Cloud State wrestlers have been named 2022-23 Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, as announced by the NWCA on Friday afternoon. The 11 Huskies Scholar All-Americans match the program’s second-highest total since 2006-07.

Wyatt Abele, Joey Bianchini, Augustus Donovan, Owen Herbst, Anthony Herrera, Phillip Kue, Cody Minor, Dominic Murphy, Nick Novak, Shaeden Scheidt, and Logan Vaughan each earned Scholar All-American status. Bianchini is one of just ten wrestlers across the country to become a five-time Scholar All-American; Scheidt and Minor earned their third career honor, while Donovan, Herrera, Murphy, and Novak each become two-time honorees.

In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the DII Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for 2023 NCAA DII National Qualifiers and 3.0 for 2023 NCAA All-Americans.

Under head coach Steve Costanzo, 148 student-athletes have earned Scholar All-American accolades.
