Augsburg 7th in NWCA/NCAA team academics, 6 Auggies named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

MINNEAPOLIS — Claiming six individual Scholar All-Americans, the Augsburg University women’s wrestling team finished in seventh place in the 2022-23 National Wrestling Coaches Association academic team race among NCAA-affiliated schools with a team grade-point average of 3.529, it was announced recently.

Six Auggies were named NWCA Scholar All-Americans:

  • Maia Foster (FY, Decorah, Iowa/Decorah HS), an art major with a 3.91 GPA.
  • Kahlea Jolly (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), a psychology and law major with a 3.80 GPA. Augsburg’s first-ever four-time Scholar All-American, she was a four-time national tournament qualifier in her career.
  • Katie Lange (FY, Coleman, Wis./Coleman HS), a finance major with a 3.97 GPA. A two-time Scholar All-American, Lange won the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships title at 143 pounds this season with a 33-6 record.
  • Nina Makem (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS), an exercise science major with a 3.43 GPA. A two-time Scholar All-American, Makem earned her second career All-American honor with a fifth-place finish at 136 pounds at the NCWWC national meet, finishing 27-6.
  • Tateum Park (SR, Davenport, Iowa/Davenport North HS), a health and physical education major with a 3.21 GPA. Park qualified for the NCWWC national meet at 116 pounds this season.
  • Kya Rybachek (SR, Mountain Iron, Minn./Hibbing HS), a health and physical education major with a 3.86 GPA. A three-time Scholar All-American, Rybachek was a two-time NCWWC national meet qualifier.

Since the program was established in the 2019-20 season, Augsburg has produced 30 NWCA Scholar All-Americans, and has finished in the top 10 in the academic team national standings each year.

Under second-year head coach Jake Short, Augsburg finished the 2022-23 season with a fifth-place finish at the NCWWC national meet, and a third-place finish in NCWWC regional competition. The Auggies finished 7-2 in dual meets this season, finishing in fifth place at the NWCA National Duals competition for NCAA-affiliated teams.
