MANHEIM, Pa. – North Dakota State Wrestling had five student-athletes recognized with Scholar All-America individual awards by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, while the program picked up a team award in the announcement by the NWCA.
The Bison program was named a 2023 Division I Men’s Team Scholar All-American team after recording the eighth-best team GPA this season, posting a 4.713. It’s the 11th time in the Division I era that the Bison have scooped up the honor, including a third-straight season.
Senior Jared Franek, the two-time reigning NCAA Elite 90 award winner, headlines a list of five Bison to be named to the 2023 NCAA Division I Men’s Individual Scholar All-Americans. Franek, working towards his Masters of Business Administration, becomes a four-time recipient of the award, joining Clayton Ream as the only other Bison to be a four-time recipient.
Senior Dylan Droegemueller and Gaven Sax join Franek as repeat winners of the award. Droegemueller, also working towards a Master of Business Administration, received the honor for the third time, while Sax, a redshirt sophomore in Sport Management, picks up his second honor.
Senior McGwire Midkiff, who is working towards a Master of Business Administration, and Michael Caliendo, a redshirt freshman in Business Administration, picked up their first honors.
The five individual honors are tied for the second most in the program’s history, along with the 2020-21 season.
