Ten Gophers Head to Sin City for 2023 U.S. Open Championships

MINNEAPOLIS – The past, present, and future of Minnesota wrestling will be well represented in Sin City this weekend as a total of ten Gophers will compete in the 2023 U.S. Open Championships at the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev., this weekend.

The group is headlined by Gable Steveson, the former two-time NCAA heavyweight champion, who will be making his return to amateur wrestling in the 125-kilogram senior division as he kicks off his pursuit of a second Olympic gold medal.

Maroon & Gold alumni Owen Webster and Jake Bergeland will also be competing in the senior division, wrestling at 86 kilograms and 70 kilograms, respectively.

There will also be a handful of current Gopher grapplers making the trip out west, as Garrett Joles, Cael Carlson, Rowan Morgan, and Drew Roberts will all compete at the senior level, while Devin Wasley will compete in the U20 division.

Fans will also get a sneak peek at a pair of incoming freshmen this weekend, as U17 world bronze medalist Max McEnelly and former Cadet world teamer Gavin Nelson will wrestle at their respective weights in the U20 tournament.

Action takes place on April 26-30 live on FloWrestling, and fans can follow along to live match-by-match updates on Twitter at @GopherWrestling and @GopherWC.
