NDSU’s Silvis Qualifies for U20 World Championships

FARGO, N.D. – NDSU wrestling’s Zach Silvis headlined performances for the Bison at the U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio last weekend.

Silvis won the 55kg Greco-Roman challenge tournament and best-of-three finals at the 2023 U20 World Team Trials, qualifying for the USA Wrestling U20 World Team.

After falling in the opening match against Kenneth Crosby, Silvis picked up 7-6 and 4-1 victories to win the 55kg finals. To reach the final, Silvis recorded a victory by fall over Roberto Estrada in the Challenge Tournament final in 1:16, after a 5-3 win over Anthony Ruzic in the semis and a 9-0 win by tech fall (2:05) over Davis Motyka in the quarters.

In the U23 Greco-Roman Nationals, Kellyn March and Clay Radenz earned placing finishes. March placed fourth in 72kg and Radenz took fifth overall in 72kg. In the U23 Freestyle Nationals, Spencer Mooberry recorded a placing finish, taking fourth overall at 97 kg.

With his win, Silvis will compete for Team USA at the United World Wrestling 2023 U20 World Championships from August 14-20. The event will take place in Warsaw, Poland.
