Novak claims top spot at 157, six Huskies earn top-12 rankings
MANHEIM, Pa. – St. Cloud State Wrestling earned the No. 4 spot in the 2023-24 National Wrestling Coaches Association Preseason Coaches Ranking, as announced on Oct. 30. Additionally, six wrestlers will open the season ranked nationally, led by returning NCAA Champion, junior 157-pounder Nick Novak (New Prague, Minn.), who claimed the top spot in his weight class.
The five-time NCAA Champion Huskies have garnered a top-four preseason rank by the NWCA each year dating back to 2015. St. Cloud State is coming off a third-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Championships, its eighth-consecutive top-four finish at the NCAA meet, while four Huskies earned All-America status with top-eight finishes.
Joining Novak in the top-12 of their respective weight class is graduate 165-pounder Anthony Herrera (Stansbury, Utah) at No. 4, redshirt senior 197-pounder Dominic Murphy (Evergreen, Ill.) at No. 4, redshirt junior 149-pounder Colby Njos (Anoka, Minn.) at No. 7, redshirt senior 133-pounder Caleb Meekins (Livonia, Mich.) at No. 9 and redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Alyeus Craig (Wichita, Kan.) at No. 12.
NWCA NCAA DII Rankings – October 30, 2023
The 2023 Red & Black Classic is set for Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. CT at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies will officially open their season on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Yellowjacket Open in Rochester, and will begin their dual schedule at the Drury Duals, slated for Nov. 16 in Springfield, Mo.
