Mavericks Enter 2023-24 Season With New Faces and Potential

Mlsna, Meunier, Hayward, and Marko Lead Group of Returning Regulars for Mavericks

Jim Makovsky enters his 31st season as the head coach of the Minnesota State University, Mankato wrestling team, looking to find the right combination of wrestlers who can help the team improve on last year’s 25th place at the NCAA Division II nationals.

Overall, it was a disappointing 2022-2023 season for the Mavericks. The team finished 8th out of 10 teams at the NCAA Division II Super Region V tournament and only qualified one wrestler for the national tournament – Darrell Mason, who earned All-American honors at 285 with a third-place finish to help the team finish in the top 25. It’s rare for the Mavericks to head into a season without any returning All-Americans or national qualifiers, but that’s the case in 2023-2024.
