Dragon Matmen Continue Momentum at Younes Hospitality Open

KEARNEY, Neb. – MSU Moorhead had strong showings from true and redshirt freshmen as the Dragons came out of the Younes Hospitality Open with four place winners.

Will Price was MSUM’s top place winner on the day, finishing fourth in the 184 pound amateur division. Price opened his day with a pair of pins before locking up fourth place with wins by tech fall, decision and injury default. The redshirt freshman now has six wins by pinfall this season. Isaiah Huus was another standout for the Dragons in the 197 pound amateur division. Huus earned five victories on the day with four of them being by fall. The highlight of the day was Huus sticking Trinidad State’s Thomas Mayer in 18 seconds. The redshirt freshman finished in a tie for sixth place.

True freshmen Caden Rose (149 pound amateur division) and Anthony Sykora (174 pound amateur division) were the other two Dragon place winners with Rose placing fifth and Sykora sixth. Rose continued his momentum from Thursday’s dual win, grabbing three wins by tech fall, decision and pin respectively. Sykora picked up five wins of his own on the day with half of them coming by way of pinfall. The true frosh pinned Isaac White of Southeast Community College in 24 seconds to benchmark his day.

Quade Peterson narrowly placed in the amateur heavyweight division, earning four wins consecutively on Saturday. Peterson won three of those four match by pinfall including one in 44 seconds against Western Colorado’s Tommy Tatham. Redshirt freshman Jacob Reinardy came close to placing for the Dragons as well, earning five victories with four pins. Reinardy pinned Trinidad State’s Boyd Rogers in 29 seconds in the first consolation round.

In the amateur 157 pound division, Cody Wienen grabbed three more wins for his ledger including a pin to open the morning. Hunter Heim had three wins by tech fall, major decision and pinfall in the 125 pound amateur division for MSUM. Other Dragons picking up victories today were Gunnar Mogen (149 pound elite division), Parker Benz (149 pound elite division) and Beau Daily (149 pound amateur division).
