Friese, Bisek & Zierden Lead Cobbers In Collegeville

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — Ty Bisek, Gabe Zierden and Ayden Friese won weight class titles and led Concordia at the Haws/Elton 4-Team Rumble hosted by St. John’s.

Bisek went 4-0 and claimed the title at 133, Zierden was a perfect 3-0 at 197, and Friese went unbeaten in a pair of matches at 285. The trio was a part of 17 Cobbers who posted Top 5 finishes at the meet, which featured host St. John’s, DII Univ. of Sioux Falls and Minnesota North-Itasca.

Bisek recorded a pair of wins over teammates Owen Bertram and Xander Spray but also had a pin at 2:12 against Nelson Anderson of Itasca and a pin at 3:00 over Beau Klingensmith of Sioux Falls in the championship match. Bisek, who is ranked third at 133 in Division III, is 7-1 on the year.

Zierden, ranked 12th in the country at 197, was wrestling in his first meet of the season after sitting out the Jamestown Invite last weekend. He started the meet with a tech fall against Aidan Wayne and then doubled up on wins against Johnnies with a pin in 31 seconds against James Diaz in the semifinals. Zierden claimed the title with a 14-2 major decision over Isaac Pearce from Itasca.

Friese started his super senior season with a sixth-place finish at Jamestown last weekend. He backed that up by getting a pair of wins at SJU to take the heavyweight title. He posted a 9-0 major decision against Jordan Loose of Itasca and then outbattled Andreas Barnett of Itasca 5-2 in the final. Fries is 4-2 this season.

Alex Rapelje and Nathaniel Kisgen came away with runner-up finishes at the SJU meet. Rapelje won his quarterfinal and semifinal matches at 174 by decisions before falling in the title match on a fall at the third-period buzzer. Kisgen earned his second-place finish at 184 with a 3-1 record, with all three wins coming by pin.

The Cobbers had three other wrestlers, all post third-place finishes. Sophomore Ethan Lebrija was 2-1 at 141, Aidan Ruddy went 2-1 at 149 and Alex McPhee was 2-2 at 157.

UP NEXT: Concordia will step up in competition level when they travel to Minneapolis to compete in the Augsburg Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 9 a.m.
