IRVING, Texas – North Dakota State wrestler Max Petersen has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for the first time in his career, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Petersen claimed an individual title at the Bison Open after three wins in the 149-pound bracket. After defeating Minnesota’s Theo Cha in his opener, Petersen then gained control of his match with No. 11 Kellyn March before winning by injury late in the first period.

Petersen then picked up another upset victory in the championship match, as he defeated Minnesota’s No. 17 Drew Roberts by a 10-8 decision to claim the title. He scored the first points of the match with a takedown in the opening period to lead 4-2 after three minutes. Petersen then recorded an escape and another takedown to grab control of the match with another takedown to start the second.
It marks the second straight week NDSU has secured the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honor after Gaven Sax earned the award last week.
NDSU will be back in action at Oklahoma on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
