St. Cloud State Inks Seven Top Notch Prospects

Costanzo adds seven wrestlers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois for 2024-25

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Wrestling head coach Steve Costanzo announced the addition of seven new student-wrestlers to the Huskies wrestling team roster for 2024-25.

The signees, who plan to enroll at SCSU next fall include:

  • Vance Barz, Sauk Rapids, Minn.
  • Mason Carpenter, Oshkosh, Wis.
  • Leo Edblad, Cambridge, Minn.
  • Austin Grzywinski, West St. Paul, Minn.
  • Brody Hart, Neenah, Wis.
  • Jayce Luna, Bettendorf, Iowa
  • Hunter Robbins, Canton, Ill.

“We look forward to bringing in these fine student-athletes to the Huskies wrestling program,” Costanzo said. “These young men are all outstanding students in the classroom and have a lot of potential on the mat. We look forward to helping these individuals reach their full potential.”

“Vance is a hard-working young man that loves the sport of wrestling,” said Costanzo. “He is a great leader on his team and in his community.  I think he has a huge upside when you combine his work-ethic, character and leadership skills. He is a great addition to our program!”

Mason Carpenter | Oshkosh, Wis. | Lourdes Academy High School

“Mason is a relentless competitor and attacker on the mat,” said Costanzo. “An excellent leader on the mat and in the classroom, Carpenter is one of two student body representatives for his school. It is great to find student-wrestlers with real leadership skills.  We are looking forward to working with him.”  

Leo Edblad | Cambridge, Minn. | Cambridge-Isanti High School

  • 152-22 High School Record (three-years)

“The one thing that really attracted us to Leo was his toughness and ability to really compete,” said Costanzo. “This guy is a competitor and a relentless attacker that hates to lose. When you combine those qualities, you will find a very successful college wrestler. We are very excited for his future with us at St. Cloud State.”

Austin Grzywinski | West St. Paul, Minn. | Simley High School

  • 86-20 High School Record (two-years)

  • 2023 Cheesehead Tournament: 106 – 4th

“Austin hails from one of the top high schools in the state of Minnesota,” said Costanzo. “He is well coached and prepped to compete at a very high level in college. Not only is he a great wrestler, but he is also an outstanding student and individual. We think he is going to grow into an outstanding college wrestler for the Huskies.”

Brody Hart | Neenah, Wis. | Winneconne High School

  • 87-5 High School Record (three-years)
  • 2023 WIAA State Championships: 138 – D2 – 2nd
  • 2023 WIAA Section C Championships: 138 – D2 – 1st
  • 2022 WIAA State Championships: 132 – D2 – 6th
  • 2021 WIAA State Championships: 120 – D2 – 1st
  • 2021 USA Wrestling Pre-season National Championships: 138 – 7th
  • Intended Major: Pre-med
  • Parents: Lee & Laurie Hart

“Brody comes to us with high recommendations out of the great state of Wisconsin,” said Costanzo. “We are very excited about this young man’s potential. When you combine his character, academic achievements and wrestling success, you get the whole package. We are sure Brody is going to be one of the next Husky greats!”

Jayce Luna | Bettendorf, Iowa | Bettendorf High School

  • 106-18 High School Record (three-years)
  • 2023 USA National Championships Showcase: 132 – 2nd 
  • 2023 IHSAA State Championships: 132 – 3A – 3rd
  • 2022 IHSAA State Championships: 126 – 3A – 7th
  • 2022 Dan Gable Donnybrook: 132 – 2nd
  • 2022 USMC National Championships Showcase: 132 – 3rd
  • 2021 IHSAA State Championships: 120 – 3A – 7th
  • Intended Major: Pre-med
  • Parent’s: Aaron & Leah Luna   

“Jayce is an outstanding addition to Huskies Wrestling,” said Costanzo. “This guy can flat-out wrestle. An extreme competitor as he competes year-round in the sport, he is very difficult to score on and has an array of attacks to go with his defense. We think he will be an earlier contributor for the Huskies during his career.”  

Hunter Robbins | Canton, Ill. | Illini Bluffs High School

  • 93-11 High School Record (three-years)
  • 2023 IHSA State Championships – 106 – 1A – 2nd
  • 2023 IHSA Section Championships – 106 – 1A – 1st
  • 2022 IHSA State Championships – 106 – 1A – 1st
  • 2022 USA Wrestling Pre-season National Championships – 106 – 5th

  • Intended Major: Exercise Science

“Hunter is a nice addition to our lightweight wrestlers,” said Costanzo. “A scrappy wrestler who is always eager to compete and will add much needed depth to our 125-pound weight class. We feel with added size and strength that he will be a force to be reconned with. We look forward to the opportunity to work with him.”
