Bison Wrestling Has Strong Showing in Dickinson

DICKINSON, N.D. – North Dakota State Wrestling had a strong showing at the Tyler Plummer Open On Saturday, hosted by Dickinson State, claiming four titles with all six wrestlers competing for the Bison, earning placing finishes.

Walker Bents (141), Trae Thilmony (149), Boeden Greenley (157), and Luke Barker (165) all claimed individual open titles, while Clay Radenz (157) and Barrett Schneck (184) wrapped up third and fifth-place finishes, respectively.

Bents had a dominant outing, scoring a pair of tech falls before recording a pin in the first-place match. He opened up with a 20-2 tech fall over UMary’s Roddy Romero before a 15-0 shutout of Dickinson State’s Dante Venema. He would claim the title with a second-period pin of UMary’s Gabe Mortensen while leading the match 13-2.

Thilmony would pick up the title at 149 with a pair of decisions. He opened up with a 9-4 win over Dickinson State’s Caleb Nielsen. He then claimed a 6-2 win in the final over Kavika Aholelei, who wrestled unattached.

In the 157-pound bracket, two Bison reached the semifinals, as Greenely opened up with a 22-6 tech fall over UMary’s Gabriel Wagner and Radenz secured a pin on Calvin Carroll of Dickinson State while leading 10-0 in the first period. Greenley then reached the final with a 5-2 win over Hunter Meinzen of Providence (MT). Radenz would fall 9-6 to Montana State-Northern’s Ryan Graves.

Radenz then won 4-0 over Wagner in the consi semis before defeating Meinzen 8-7 for third place. In the championship match, Greenley had another dominant showing, winning 13-4 by major decision over Graves.

Barker would claim the final title for the Bison in the 165-pound bracket. Barker opened up with a second-period pin of Tynan Krause out of Providence (MT). Barker secured a takedown in what appeared to be headed for a quick tech fall to go up 15-0, but he secured the pin in the continuation. Barker then got a tech fall against Cael White of Montana State-Northern in the semis before an 11-7 win over unattached Isaac Berger in the final.

Barrett Schneck made his debut for the Bison and picked up a couple of pins. Schneck opened up with a pin of Dickinson State’s Collin McGrath before suffering defeat in back-to-back matches. However, he answered back with a dominant pin, leading 15-2 before securing the fall at 2:14 in the fifth-place match.
