Mavericks Away to Continue NSIC Dual Season

Minnesota State travels north to Moorhead to face the Dragons on Thursday, Jan. 25th.

The Dragons are 0-4 currently in NSIC duals, with a 1-5 overall dual record, beating the University of Jamestown early at the beginning of the season. Kris Nelson, head coach of the Dragons, is in his 15th year with MSU Moorhead.

Last Time Out: The Mavericks traveled to St. Cloud last week to face the No. 6 Huskies, resulting in a 31-6 loss. The Huskies have six ranked wrestlers in the last NWCA Coaches’ Poll, including No. 1 Nick Novak at 157 pounds. At 141 pounds, St. Cloud State’s No. 12 Alyeus Craig lost by a 7-6 decision to Minnesota State’s junior Trayton Anderson.

The Makovsky File: In his 31st year with Minnesota State, head coach Jim Makovsky holds an impressive 304-137-3 career record, the most in program history. Makovsky has coached 12 Individual National Champions, 96 NCAA All-Americans, and has been inducted into the NCAA DII Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.

National Appearances: Minnesota State made an appearance on the podium in the 2022-23 season with senior Darrell Mason, at 285 lb., finishing third. Mason held a 17-4 record, became a two-time NCAA All-American, and earned the Minnesota State Senior Male Athlete of the Year Honor. Mason was also the national champion at 285 lb. his junior year with a perfect 22-0 record.
