Mustangs travel to St. Cloud to face no. 5 Huskies

MARSHALL, Minn. – The 25th-ranked Southwest Minnesota State University wrestling team (3-4, 1-4 NSIC) will travel to St. Cloud on Saturday to face the 5th-ranked St. Cloud State Huskies. The dual is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

MUSTANGS IN THE RANKINGS
The Mustangs dropped one spot and are now ranked No. 25 in the NWCA rankings released on Jan. 22. SMSU moved up a spot in the latest Open Mat rankings, released on Jan. 24, moving up to No. 23 in the Team Tournament rankings.

Dykes moved up a spot in the latest NWCA rankings, entering the top 10 for the first time this season at No. 10. Dykes fell two spots in the Open Mat rankings, dropping to No. 13. Dykes has earned victories over Devon Rice (Newberry) who is currently ranked No. 11 in the NWCA rankings and No. 14 in the Open Mat rankings, Jake Swirple, who is currently ranked No. 7 in the NWCA rankings and No. 10 in the Open Mat rankings and Lloyd Reynolds, who is currently ranked No. 15 in the Open Mat rankings.

Caden Steffen (sponsored by Borch’s)
At 197 pounds, Steffen currently ranks No. 3 in both the NWCA and the Open Mat rankings. Steffen has picked up victories over Matt Kaylor, who is ranked No. 6 in the NWCA rankings and No. 9 in the Open Mat rankings, Max Ramberg, who is ranked No. 11 by the NWCA and No. 6 by Open Mat, and Cannon Potts, who is ranked No. 20 by Open Mat.

LAST WEEK: The Mustangs lost a home dual to Parkside on Jan. 19 by a score of 36-11. The Mustangs picked up two wins in the dual, by Caden Steffen at 197 and Jacob Dykes at 285. The Mustangs then defeated MSU Moorhead by a score of 30-8 on Jan. 21, with Carlo Arreola at 125, Luke Peterson at 149, Sean Howk at 157, Ashton LaBelle at 165, Lucas Hodges at 174, Adam Sylvester at 184, Caden Steffen at 197 and Jacob Dykes at 285 all picking up wins for SMSU.
