NDSU Hosts Air Force

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State wrestling wraps up a three-dual homestand on Sunday as the Bison welcome in the Air Force Academy in Big 12 action. The Bison and Falcons are set to get underway at 12:30 p.m. inside the Scheels Center.

Sunday’s dual against Air Force will be televised live on WDAY Xtra with Dom Izzo (play-by-play) and Jack Maughan (color) on the call. Check GoBison.com for full channel listings and coverage areas.

The matchup with the Falcons is the first of two Bison wrestling duals that will be broadcast live on Bison 1660. Andy Rieckhoff and former Bison heavyweight Brandon Metz will have the broadcasting duties.

The dual between the Bison and Air Force will also be available live on NDSU All-Access for streaming. Live results will also be available through TrackWrestling. Links for coverage are available on the wrestling schedule page at GoBison.com.

Tickets for the dual against Air Force are available at GoBison.com/tickets and in the Bison Ticket Office located in the SHAC. Tickets will also be available on Sunday afternoon at the door. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 3-17.

Sax, Drexler Appear in First Coaches’ Ranking Release
In the first Coaches’ Ranking released on January 22, Bison junior Gaven Sax (174) and redshirt freshman Gavin Drexler (141) made appearances in the rankings in their respective weight classes. Sax was ranked No. 18 with 194 points, while Drexler was ranked No. 29 with 63 points.

Back-to-Back Wins for Bison
North Dakota State picked up wins over Northern Colorado and California Baptist last week. It is the first time the Bison have recorded back-to-back wins this season, with the last occurrence coming in a 7-dual win streak last season in January and February.

Ranked Bison
Three Bison are ranked in the FloWrestling and InterMat rankings. Kellyn March (149) sits at #18 overall in Flo and #19 in InterMat, while Gaven Sax (174) sits at #19 in Flo and #24 in the InterMat rankings. Redshirt freshman Gavin Drexler (141) sits at #27 in InterMat and #30 in the Flo rankings.

Quick Pins
Devon Dawson (285) and Brendan Howes (165) each recorded first-period pins last weekend to help the Bison to dual victories. Dawson sealed the win over Cal Baptist with his second takedown of Chris Island, securing the fall at 2:18 on the edge of the mat. Howes ultimately scored the winning points in the dual against Northern Colorado with his takedown and pin of Derek Matthews at 1:37.

Weekend Sweeps
Gavin Drexler (141), Max Petersen (149), Landen Johnson (157) and Brendan Howes (165) all recorded multiple wins on the mat last weekend, with at least one bonus-point decision. Drexler, Petersen and Johnson all had a major decision, while Howes had a pin. Devon Dawson (285) had a pin and a forfeit.

North Dakota State will hit the road for a pair of Big 12 duals next week, traveling to Orem, Utah, to take on Utah Valley on Friday, Feb. 2, before heading to Laramie, Wyoming, to face Wyoming on Sunday, Feb. 4.
