CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – No. 6 St. Cloud State Wrestling (7-1, 2-0 NSIC) fell in the semifinals but then rebounded to earn third place at the 2024 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division-II National Duals on Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Huskies dropped a 24-10 result in the semifinals to No. 1 Central Oklahoma before beating No. 3 Lander, 24-16, in the third-place match.

With the third-place finish, the Huskies have now finished in the top three at the NWCA National Duals for the 13th consecutive tournament dating back to 2011 (no tournament in 2021 due to the pandemic). The Huskies won three bouts against top-ranked Central Oklahoma, including the first two bouts, to jump out to a 7-0 lead. At 125 pounds, redshirt sophomore 125-pounder Conor Knopick (Omaha, Neb.) earned a major decision with an 11-3 result over Garrett Steidley. Redshirt junior 133-pounder Sam Spencer (Huntley, Ill.) then followed with a takedown in the first overtime period to beat Shaun Muse 5-2. Three bouts later, junior 157-pounder Nick Novak (New Prague, Minn.) picked up a ranked win over No. 4 Gabe Johnson with a 3-0 shutdown.

The Huskies racked up the points in the third-place match against No. 3 Lander, earning four bonus point victories in a 24-16 victory. Redshirt senior 133-pounder Caleb Meekins (Livonia, Mich) was the first to score for the Huskies, shutting out Kaden Kuenzi for a 15-0 technical fall as time expired. Two Huskies earned first-period pins in the match, first with redshirt junior 149-pounder Colby Njos (Anoka, Minn.) pinning Junior Browning at 0:57, then redshirt junior 184-pounder Bryce FitzPatrick (Mahtomedi, Minn.) near the end of the period at 2:57 over Jack Bond.
