Zillmer wins Gold at Henri Deglane Grand Prix

Gopher Wrestling Club wrestler Hayden Zillmer, wrestling at 125 kg, won the gold medal at the Henri Deglane Grand Prix Wrestling Tournament in Nice, France, on Saturday. Zillmer’s tournament included 10-0 tech falls against Levan Lagvilava of France and Jonovan Smith of Puerto Rico, along with shutout wins against Johannes Ludescher of Austria and Omar Eyubov of Kazakhstan. In the finals, Zillmer secured the victory over fellow Gopher Wrestling Club wrestler Trent Hillger 9-2.

Hillger’s silver medal performance included a tech fall against Lucas Gansi of Germany, and shutout wins against Jonovan Smith of Puerto Rico and Omar Eyubov of Kazakhstan.

The Gopher Wrestling Club’s Daniel Deshazer, competing in the 57 kg bracket, won a silver medal. Deshazer defeated Darian Cruz, wrestling for Puerto Rico, and Cael Nasdeo of the United States by 10-0 tech falls. He dropped a 2-1 match against Roman Bravo-Young, wrestling for Mexico, in the finals.

Former Apple Valley and Penn State standout Mark Hall, wrestling at 86 kg, also earned a silver medal. His victories included a hard-fought 4-4 match against Alans Amirovs of Latvia and a quick win over Joshua Morodion of Germany by fall in 46 seconds. Hall lost 10-4 in the final to reigning European champion and Russian expat Dauren Kurugliev of Greece.
