D-III Auggies score 22-13 win over D-II Vikings

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Winning six of the final eight bouts of the match to overcome an early 7-0 deficit, the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III men’s wrestling, Augsburg University, claimed a 22-13 victory over the No. 14-ranked team in Division II, Augustana University (S.D.), on Thursday evening.

The Auggies fell behind 7-0 after two bouts but rallied back with six wins in the final eight bouts to score the victory, improving to 10-3 in the all-time series with the Vikings. Stuhl took a 5-0 lead on a takedown and two-point near-fall in the first period, expanded the lead with an escape, takedown, and two-point near-fall in the second period, and clinched the technical fall with back-to-back three-point near-falls in the third period. Leading 6-5 in the third period, Stuhl clinched the victory with a takedown and a riding time point.

Three straight wins by ranked Auggie wrestlers gave the visitors a 19-10 advantage. No. 3-ranked 165-pounder Cooper Willis (SO, Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove HS) improved to 26-1 with his 23rd straight victory, a 10-1 major decision over Payton Anderson.
