Auggies claim 45-6 win over Concordia-Moorhead

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Winning nine of the ten bouts in the match, the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III men’s wrestling, Augsburg University, secured a 45-6 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday evening to improve to 10-1 in dual meets this season.

Ranking No. 1 in both the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III tournament and dual-meet national rankings, the Auggies won nine of the ten bouts, including eight straight to finish the match.

The Auggies started the match with a win at 125 pounds when Wyatt Kaczrowski (JR, Seymour, Wis./Seymour HS) secured a 10-0 major decision over Concordia’s Kie Anderson. Kaczrowski is now 19-14 on the season, with 14 bonus-point wins.

After a Cobber pin at 133 pounds gave them a 6-4 lead, No. 6-ranked Sam Stuhl (SR, Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth HS) restored the lead for Augsburg with an 18-3 technical fall over Gabe Bellefeuille, his fourth technical fall of the season. Stuhl is now 20-4 on the year with 13 wins by bonus-point margins.

No. 3-ranked 141-pounder Charlie Stuhl (JR, Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth HS) continued the momentum established by his brother with a 9-6 decision over Kellen Schauer, improving to 20-3 on the season.

At 157, No. 5-ranked Blake Jagodzinske (JR, Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West HS) claimed a 10-0 major decision over Alex McPhee to improve to 13-5 overall, earning bonus points in 10 of them.

No. 3-ranked 165-pounder Cooper Willis (SO, Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove HS) carried the bonus-point momentum with an 18-0 technical fall over Elijah Hunt, moving him to 27-1 this season with 17 bonus-point victories.

A string of four straight Auggie pins to end the match started at 174 pounds when No. 3-ranked Seth Goetzinger (JR, Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield HS) pinned Concordia’s Zach Pribyl in 2:37, his seventh pin of the season. Geotzinger is now 24-4 overall this year.

Top-ranked 184-pounder Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann (SR, Loyal, Wis./Marshfield HS) secured his 21st consecutive win with a pin of Nathaniel Kisgen in 4:45. Schwanebeck-Ostermann is now 24-1 on the season with 21 wins coming via bonus points.

The only bout of the evening featuring two ranked wrestlers, No. 4-ranked 197-pounder Parker Venz (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) pinned No. 12-ranked Gabe Zierden in 4:34, giving Venz his 16th win of the season and 15th by bonus points.

Wrapping up the dual at 285 pounds, No. 4-ranked Tyler Kim (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) improved to 22-2 on the season with a 1:08 pin of Concordia’s Mason Swanson.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Against opponents from Divisions II and III, Augsburg is now 371-58-1 in dual meets since the 1989-90 season. Augsburg has lost just 53 matches to non-Division I opponents since the 1995-96 season. Against strictly Division III opponents, Augsburg is 356-57-1 since the 1979-80 season and 279-47-1 since 1989-90.

Augsburg is now 31-3 all-time against Concordia-Moorhead and has won the last nine meetings in a row between the two schools, dating to the 2014-15 season.

Augsburg’s 10-1 dual-meet finish this season is its best mark since an 11-1 finish in its 2018-19 national title campaign.

Tony Valek is now 33-6 in dual meets in his five years as head coach.

No. 5-ranked Ty Bisek gave the Cobbers their lone win of the night at 133 pounds with a pin of Augsburg’s Chance Suddeth (FY, Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton HS) in 3:44.
