Big day for Beatty

Northland freshman Arionna Beatty finishes fifth at Midland Warrior Open

Fremont, Neb. – Northland freshman Arionna Beatty beat one ranked opponent and placed ahead of another during a 4-2 outing Saturday at the Midland Warrior Open in Fremont, Neb.

Beatty’s biggest win of the day was a win by fall over fourth-ranked Celeste Cubillo of Iowa Western. She also pinned Maria Slaughter, who was seeded second in the tournament, in the consolation quarterfinals. Overall, Beatty went 4-2, with three wins by fall. Her only losses on the day were to eventual runner-up Serenety De La Garza of Missouri Valley and to eventual third-place finisher Brinley Greene of the University of Sioux Falls.

Beatty and Nevaeh Leonard of Southeast Community College tied for fifth place in the tournament. However, no fifth-place match was held because both athletes had already reached the daily limit of six matches.

Also competing for the Pioneers were Shelby Sherman at 143 and Madelyn Gallant at 155. Sherman went 0-2 with a pair of losses by technical fall to eventual champ Ashlyn Goodwin of Fort Hays State and fourth place finisher Savannah Turner of Hastings College. Gallant lost by fall to Elise Falcetti of Missouri Valley College and by technical fall to Elizabeth Hubbard, also of Missouri Valley College.

The Northland Women’s wrestling team is off until the NJCAA Women’s Wrestling Invitational March 1-2 at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
