Craig Named NSIC Wrestler of the Week

Craig defeated No. 2 Cayden Henschel to lift SCSU to victory over No. 4 Parkside

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – St. Cloud State Wrestling redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Alyeus Craig (Wichita, Kan.) was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Wrestler of the Week, as announced on Monday. Craig defeated No. 2-ranked Cayden Henschel to help the Huskies beat No. 4 Parkside, 27-6, on Saturday.

Craig is the second Husky to be named NSIC Wrestler of the Week this season after junior 157-pounder Nick Novak (New Prague, Minn.) won the weekly honor on Jan. 29.

Craig entered Saturday’s dual ranked No. 12 at 141 pounds and upset the second-ranked wrestler Henschel. He executed a takedown late in the third period and fended off a late reversal attempt for the win. With the win, Craig improved to 12-3 on the season with ten wins by bonus points (four major decisions, two technical falls, four falls).

SCSU improved to 7-0 in NSIC duals and now sits in the driver’s seat for an NSIC regular season championship, as they jumped ahead of Parkside (7-1) and Augustana (6-1). The Huskies now have two regular season duals remaining as they hunt for their 12th NSIC regular season championship in 13 seasons under head coach Steve Costanzo and 16th overall regular season conference title. SCSU is now 10-2-1 all-time against Parkside, avenging its 20-19 loss by criteria on Jan. 12, 2023, which snapped SCSU’s 53-match home win streak and 88-match NSIC win streak.
