Meekins and Meyer Earn Titles at Don Parker Open

SCSU records 18 top-eight finishes at open tournament

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – No. 5 St. Cloud State Wrestling (11-1, 6-0 NSIC) earned two open titles and 18 top-eight finishes at the Don Parker Open on Saturday in Eau Claire, Wis. Redshirt senior 133-pounder Caleb Meekins (Livonia, Mich.) and redshirt sophomore 184-pounder Tyson Meyer (Glenwood, Minn.) captured titles at their respective weight classes to lead the Huskies in the tournament.

At 133 points, Meekins earned a major decision and two falls to advance to the championship bout, where he beat teammate redshirt junior 133-pounder Sam Spencer (Huntley, Ill.) 9-7 to win the title. Meyer captured his title by recording four bonus point victories – two falls, one technical fall, and one major decision – before advancing to the championship match, where he beat Augsburg’s Brandt Bombard 4-2.

Freshman 125-pounder Dominic Ducato (Carpentersville, Ill.), Spencer, and redshirt junior 149-pounder Nolan Throne (Moline, Ill.) earned runner-up finishes at their respective weight classes. Redshirt sophomore 174-pounder Bryce Dagel (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and freshman 174-pounder Cole Glazier (Kasson, Minn.) advanced to the championship bout at 174 pounds but did not wrestle each other in the match. Earning third-place finishes were redshirt freshman 125-pounder Archer Heelan (Kearney, Neb.) and redshirt sophomore 174-pounder Jude Link (Darwin, Minn.)
