Murphy Named NSIC Wrestler of the Week

Murphy earned a pair of ranked victories to lead the Huskies to NSIC title

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – St. Cloud State Wrestling redshirt senior 197-pounder Dominic Murphy (Evergreen Park, Ill.) was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Wrestler of the Week, as announced on Monday. Murphy defeated two ranked opponents while helping lead the Huskies to the NSIC regular season conference championship.

Murphy is the third Husky to be named NSIC Wrestler of the Week this season after junior 157-pounder Nick Novak (New Prague, Minn.) won the weekly honor on Jan. 29 and redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Alyeus Craig (Wichita, Kan.) won the honor on Feb. 12.

Murphy beat Augustana’s No. 11-ranked Max Rumburg, 7-3, in a 29-3 dual win on Friday, then beat UMary’s No. 8-ranked Max Bruss by 13-3 major decision in a 23-13 dual win on Sunday. With the pair of wins, Murphy improved to 14-3 on the season with seven bonus point victories (four MDs, three TFs).

The fourth-ranked wrestler helped the Huskies finish a perfect 9-0 record in NSIC duals and clinch the NSIC regular season conference championship, its 12th in the last 13 seasons and 17th conference title overall.
