Mustangs set to host Wolves for senior night

MARSHALL, Minn. – The 25th-ranked Southwest Minnesota State University wrestling team (3-6, 1-6 NSIC) will host the 18th-ranked Northern State University Wolves (7-12, 2-5 NSIC) on Friday night inside the PE gym. The dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

MUSTANGS IN THE RANKINGS
The Mustangs dropped one spot and are now ranked No. 25 in the NWCA rankings released on Jan. 22. SMSU dropped out of the top 25 in the latest Open Mat Top 25 team tournament rankings.

Dykes moved up a spot in the latest NWCA rankings, entering the top 10 for the first time this season at No. 10. Dykes fell in the Open Mat rankings, coming in at No. 16. Dykes has earned victories over Devon Rice (Newberry) who is currently ranked No. 11 in the NWCA rankings and No. 12 in the Open Mat rankings, Jake Swirple, who is currently ranked No. 7 in the NWCA rankings and No. 10 in the Open Mat rankings and Lloyd Reynolds, who is currently ranked No. 13 in the Open Mat rankings.

Caden Steffen (sponsored by Borch’s)
At 197 pounds, Steffen currently ranks No. 3 in both the NWCA and the Open Mat rankings. Steffen has picked up victories over Dominic Murphy (St. Cloud State), who is ranked No. 4 in the NWCA rankings and No. 8 in the Open Mat rankings, Matt Kaylor (UMary), who is ranked No. 6 by the NWCA and No. 9 by Open Mat, Max Ramberg (Augustana), who is ranked No. 11 by the NWCA and No. 6 by Open Mat and Cannon Potts (Minot State), who is ranked No. 19 by Open Mat.

LAST TIME OUT: The Mustangs lost a road dual to Minnesota State on Feb. 3 by a score of 15-30. SMSU won four of the matches in the dual, with Carlo Arreola winning by 20-3 tech fall (6:50), Luke Peterson winning by 7-3 decision, Sean Howk scoring a last-second takedown to win by 6-5 decision, and Caden Steffen securing a 12-2 major decision.
