NDSU Wraps Home Schedule With No. 7 Missouri

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State wrestling wraps up the home schedule this week, welcoming in No. 7 Missouri on Friday, February 16. The dual with the Tigers is slated to get underway at 7 p.m. inside the Scheels Center.

Friday’s dual will be televised live on WDAY Xtra with Dom Izzo (play-by-play) and Jack Maughan (color) on the call and on NDSU All-Access for streaming. Andy Rieckhoff and former Bison heavyweight Brandon Metz will call the action.

Tickets for the dual against Missouri are available at GoBison.com/tickets and in the Bison Ticket Office located in the SHAC. Tickets will also be available on Sunday afternoon at the door. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 3-17.

Sax, Howes, Petersen Appear in First RPI Ranking Release
Three Bison are ranked in the first release of the RPI rankings on February 15. Gaven Sax (174) leads the way for the Bison, sitting in ninth and second among Big 12 wrestlers. Brendan Howes (165) is #23, sixth of eight Big 12 wrestlers. Max Petersen (149) is also ranked, sitting at #29 and fifth in the Big 12.

Ranked Bison
In the second Coaches’ Ranking released on February 15, Gaven Sax (174) and Gavin Drexler (141) made appearances. Sax is ranked No. 21, while Drexler sits at No. 29. Three Bison are ranked in the FloWrestling and InterMat rankings. Sax sits at #18 in Flo and #23 in the Intermat rankings. Drexler sits at #32 in Intermat, while Max Petersen (149) is ranked at #31 in the Flo rankings.

Dual Win Streaks
Gaven Sax (174) and Max Petersen (149) enter the dual with Missouri carrying dual win streaks of seven matches each. Sax has been dominant in his run, recording bonus-point decisions in six of the seven matches, as well as two ranked victories. Sax has not allowed a point by his opponents in duals since December 19, outscoring the opposition 40-0 with two tech falls and a major decision in his last three dual appearances.

After three ranked losses to start his dual season, one by two points and the other two in sudden victory, Petersen has secured four bonus-point victories in his seven-match dual win streak, including a 19-4 tech fall over #23 Gabe Willochell of Wyoming last time out. Petersen also has three major decisions during the run, including two in late January.

North Dakota State will hit the road for one final dual on the 2023-24 schedule, traveling south to Brookings to take on South Dakota State. The match-up with the Jackrabbits is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, inside Frost Arena.
