Mustangs’ Steffen eliminated from DII Championships

PARK CITY, Kan. – Caden Steffen was eliminated from the NCAA DII National Championships on Friday evening.

Championship First Round
Steffen matched up with McKendree’s Logan Kvien. Kvien earned All-American honors at 197 pounds last year after placing sixth.

Kvien led 3-1 after the first period, securing a takedown in the first, which led to a Steffen escape. Steffen took control in the second period, securing an escape and then a takedown, which led to a Kvien escape. After a quick escape to start the third, the match was tied 5-5, Kvien earned a pair of takedowns to defeat Steffen by 12-6 decision.

Consolation First Round
Wyatt Miller (GVSU) defeated Steffen by 7-2 decision. Miller secured a takedown in the first period, which Steffen escaped. In period two, Steffen started on the bottom, and the only point scored was another escape. Leading 3-2, Miller chose the bottom position and earned an escape and a takedown to secure the 7-2 victory.
