Steffen honored with All-American accolades by NSCA

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is proud to announce Southwest Minnesota State University wrestler senior Caden Steffen as a 2024 All-American Athlete Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year Award recipient.

This award recognizes Steffen’s athletic accomplishments and his dedication to strength and conditioning. Nominated by SMSU head wrestling coach Chayse Jackson, Steffen’s determination to improve in athletics while maintaining academic prominence is a great model for all student-athletes at SMSU. He is one of 12 student-athletes in the sport of wrestling recognized by the NSCA.

“We are proud to have head coach Chayse Jackson join the NSCA in its mission to safely improve athletic performance,” says Eric McMahon, NSCA’s Coaching and Sport Science Program Manager, “Supporting our student-athletes like Caden guarantees a stronger future for the NSCA.”

Steffen, a native of Zumbrota, Minn., competed at 197 pounds this season for the Mustangs and finished with an 18-4 record. Ranked among the Top 5 nationally all season long, Steffen earned All-NSIC honors with a perfect 9-0 record in NSIC duals. He placed second at the NCAA Super V Regional to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the third time in his career. He earned NCAA All-American honors in 2021 and 2022.

After a suffering a season-ending injury competing at 184 pounds in 2022-23, Steffen worked even harder to put on more muscle mass to move up to 197 pounds this season. He set personal record maxes of 525 squat, 635 deadlift, 335 clean, and 405 bench press during fall training. In addition to his barbell work, Steffen finishes his workouts with heavy sandbag loads/carry’s, farmers walks, log press, and sled push and pull.
